Hesitancy with AAC
There is often fear associated with using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). When I speak to parents or spouses about this subject, I can see and feel their hesitancy.
“What do you mean my child/spouse should use a device?”
“I want my child/spouse to speak.”
“I don’t want them to rely on technology".”
“Giving them a temporary means of communication seems like a crutch.”
“It will be too difficult to learn how to use it.”
“We’re not interested.”
