 What are your practice policies?

Attendance and participation in therapy along with compliance of associated home programs, are essential for therapeutic success. 75% attendance is required each month. If you cancel too many appointments and your attendance rate falls below 75%, RM Studio will require one of the following: (1) encourage you to make up the session within a week, or (2) pay a $50.00 holding fee to keep your appointment spot.

If you are unable to reschedule or pay the $50.00 holding fee, RM Studio will either place you on a waitlist until a new time slot opens up that meets your scheduling needs, or reserve the right to cancel all pending appointments, complete a discharge note, and no longer offer services to you as a client.

If you are late, your appointment will still end at the original scheduled time unless accommodations can be easily made by your clinician to extend your session without conflicting with another client’s appointment and/or clinician’s schedule.

Late cancellations are subject to a $50.00 fee if not received at least 24 hours in advance.

If you do not show up for an appointment and provide no prior notice, you will be charged $75.00.

 How do I know if speech, language, or myofunctional therapy is needed?

The truth is you’re not supposed to know! That’s why it’s important to seek out support from certified professionals who can help you decide what services may be needed.

The “wait and see” method is an outdated approach and is not supported by research. Although some children may catch up to their peers, others need direct services to meet foundational milestones. We recommend “check and see” to take advantage of early identification and intervention or explain why services are not necessary. If you have concerns, please reach out to us for a complimentary 15-minute consultation.

 What is myofunctional therapy?

Myo = muscle
Functional = function

Myofunctional therapy is a set of exercises designed to facilitate proper breathing, chewing, swallowing, and speaking in those with Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders. The purpose of myofunctional therapy is to help retrain the orofacial muscles to function properly and rest in the correct position. Think of it as ‘physical therapy’ for the oral and facial muscles. Collaboration with other medical professionals is a key component to promoting overall health and well-being. Referrals to ENTs, allergists, dentists, orthodontists, or cranial sacral therapists may be recommended during the process of completing a myofunctional therapy program.

 Is an evaluation required prior to services?

All clients must be evaluated prior to receiving therapeutic services to determine a diagnosis and to create an appropriate, up-to-date plan of care. We will accept recent evaluation reports that have occurred in the last 6 months in the areas of concern.

 How long will I need to attend therapy?

While we wish there was a concrete answer, the duration of treatment is dependent on a number of different factors including: severity of disorder, responsiveness to therapy, client and family motivation, relevant medical, educational, and family history, personality characteristics, and the implementation of practice and carryover at home.

Discharge is recommended when the client is demonstrating appropriate skills that are supported by data, informal evaluation tools, assessment scores, and caregiver report. However, the ultimate decision is always the choice of the client and the family as you may feel satisfied with your progress or must consider other external factors.

 Will I need to complete things at home?

You are an active participant in the progression towards your treatment goals. Home exercise programs are an essential component for carry over and generalization of learned skills. Our goal is to make home programs meaningful to you which will provide motivation for consistent completion of your exercises. Therapy is a team effort, and we encourage you to practice assigned homework for successful outcomes.
